Amie moisturiser* £5.95
Amie facial wipes* £3.49
I was recently sent a few things from the award winning natural beauty brand Amie including their daily moisturiser and some rather lovely cleansing wipes. I decided to feature these two products in the first of my 'festival essentials' posts, since that time of year is almost upon us and these little beauties are perfect for popping in your rucksack to take along with you to whatever festival you might be headed off to this summer.

The moisturiser retails for the very pocket friendly sum of £5.95 and is a really thick, moisturising lotion which reminds me of summer holidays as it definitely has a touch of sunscreen feel about it. With an SPF 15, you can pop this on safe in the knowledge that you are helping your skin stay protected against the sun, which hopefully we will be seeing a lot of this summer. Although it seems rather scary (and white!) when you first apply. the product absorbs really well into your skin, and leaves it feeling lovely and soft.

The facial wipes (£3.49) are perfect for a festival; you can use them to remove your make up and also to freshen up if you don't fancy using the rather questionable showers that are often on offer. Let's be honest here girls, we've all been to a festival at least once and just embraced the unwashed look, right? Or is that just me! The wipes as super soft and full of moisture, so although they are slightly more expensive than the usual wipes I buy (Superdrug own brand) you can really notice a difference in quality.

The entire Amie range is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and certified by Cruelty free international, so you can guarantee they are 100% cruelty free.

Will you be dancing the sunset away listening to your favourite band at any festivals this year?

Butter London - Blowing Raspberries £10
Butter London are one of my favourite nail brands of all time. They are cruelty free, have a fantastic range of colours and have some of the best glitter formulas that I have tried. I discovered recently that you can find them on Amazon for a little bit less than the usual asking price, and of course had to snap up a few new gems to add to my collection.

I adore this rich raspberry red shade; it is so easy to apply and in the picture above I have only used one coat yet it's pretty much opaque.

I wore this recently with a white dress and thought it complimented it perfectly - I can see this one being a Summer staple.

What do you think, will you be adding this to your collection?

balance me super toning body oil

Balance Me Super toning body oil*

The Balance Me Super Toning body oil is the first oil Balance Me ever created, and is now one of their cult products with rave reviews everywhere from Grazia to Harpers Bazaar.

Full of moisturising vitamins and goodness like jojoba, macadamia and sweet almond oil, it is a truly sumptuous blend of ingredients and has a heady, intoxicating aroma that lingers on your skin all day long.

The Balance Me team recommend dry body brushing before using the oil to enhance its effectiveness, so I invested in this one from Boots, which I find works really well. I warm the oil between my hands and apply it in smooth upwards strokes, and have done so daily for the past few weeks. Although I was initially slightly sceptical about what it would truly be able to achieve, I have seen tangible differences in my upper arms, which is where I have been focussing the application.

They are smoother, more supple and feel generally improved in both tone and appearance. Whilst there is never going to be a miraculous body lotion or oil that is going to turn you into Gisele (trust me, I long for the day someone invents that!) combined with a sensible diet and lots of water, you will noticed real results with continued use of this.

Unlike other body toning products I have tried (Dior, I am looking at you) this has a truly lovely scent, and is a real pleasure to apply, so you don't feel it's a chore having to remember to do it; I really enjoyed adding it into my beauty routine. The aroma has a real 'spa treatment at home' feel to it, and I absolutely love the way it feels on my skin.

You can pick this up at a cost of £20 for a generous 200ml bottle over on the balance me website.

Have you tried anything from the Super Toning Balance Me range? Let me know what you think!

dress up #3

Monday, May 6, 2013
  •  Necklace - Zara - £19.99
  • Bag - Dorothy Perkins - £20
  • Dress - Topshop - £60.00
  • Shoes - MissGuided - £34.99
  • Earrings - Tiffany & co - £385

For dress up #3, I decided to go for a look based around this stunning prom style dress by Jones and Jones.  They have a number of similar styles on the Topshop site, all of which I'm currently coveting.

Another winning accessory from Zara was the next item I discovered - the necklace is elegant yet still a statement piece, and I like that it has mixed metals, as I am usually more of a silver person than gold, so this has the best of both worlds.

Missguided are fast becoming my favourite place for really affordable, fun shoes - they are mostly super high though, so not for the faint hearted! I'd say about 90% of their stock is non leather too, which is perfect for me.

Let me know what you think of the outfit!

my hilton getaway and a chance to win £100 hilton vouchers

The Hilton Dunkeld House hotel is a statuesque country house set in 280 acres of beautiful land, nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Perthshire countryside. Scott and I were invited to stay recently as part of the Rediscover Hilton project - if you search the hashtag #rediscoverhilton on Twitter, you will see some truly lovely pictures from Hilton Hotels across the UK, including some that I live tweeted throughout our visit.

An hour and a half after we set off from Glasgow, we arrived in the town of Dunkeld and approached the majestic castle entrance to the grounds of the hotel estate, which looked truly breath-taking in the afternoon sunlight. About a mile and a half up a winding narrow road (which I navigated with great trepidation!) we arrived at our destination; an imposing, character drenched country house flanked by a powerful river and elegant grounds as far as the eye can see.

The hotel is traditionally Scottish with lots of tartan and deep purple accents and a very homely, welcoming feel despite it's size. Upon arrival, we were offered a complimentary brandy or sherry whilst waiting to check in, and then, to my delight were given an actual key to open the door to our room. To those of you who remember life pre-internet, you will perhaps understand the nostalgia I often feel for the simple times before technology invaded every waking moment of our lives. Amongst the stark, modern hotels I've visited recently for work, and the key fobs or plastic cards you have to swipe in an often futile attempts to gain access at the door, it was a real pleasure to use a good old fashioned key to open the door to our room.

The rooms are bright and airy with very high ceilings, and all the amenities you would expect from a good quality hotel, and a surprisingly modern and sleek bathroom. The only addition I would perhaps make to the room would be a mini fridge - it's one luxury that personally I really do like to have in a hotel.

After enjoying a glass of wine to settle in, we went to explore, and I couldn't help but admire the sweeping grand staircase in the main foyer as well as the very elegant adjacent drawing room. It would be a gorgeous venue for a really traditional wedding and I can just picture how it would look adorned with flowers and bagpipers.

We spent some time having a drink in the bar area, waiting to be seated for dinner and enjoying the friendly atmosphere and the huge windows which offered a moonlit view of the river. A beautiful three course meal in the main dining room followed by a bottle of champagne in front of a roaring fire finished off a truly lovely evening,  and we retired to our room with full tummies and a pleasantly fuzzy head, ready to fall asleep in our extremely comfortable and luxuriously spacious bed.

Breakfast in the main dining room the next morning was a lovely affair, with a scrumptious array of pastries to choose from, as well as plenty of healthy options. The sun chose to make a fortuitous and very welcome appearance and I spent some time in the grounds enjoying the feeling of being out of the city and surrounded by nature.

The hotel boasts not only a swimming pool and a spa, but several outdoor activities right within the hotel grounds such as quad biking and off road driving. For me however, the best feature by a country mile is that you are allowed to bring along your furry friends. Had I known this before we set off, little Tyson would most definitely have come along for the experience, and if we do visit again in the future he will certainly be on the invite list!

I have filmed a virtual tour of the hotel which will be live over on my youtube channel shortly, so if you aren't subscribed already then pop over and take a look!

If you would like to win £100 voucher for any UK Hilton Hotel, all you have to do to enter is be a follower of this blog via bloglovin or GFC, and leave a comment below letting me know which Hilton you would prefer to visit the most and why!

Good luck!

the body shop camomile gentle eye make up remover

The Body Shop eye make up remover - £8
I was browsing online for a new eye makeup remover to try, when I came across a huge bunch of fantastic reviews for this one from The Body Shop. Initially I had been looking for an oil based make up remover as I prefer those for my skin, however this had so many glowing reviews that I popped it into my basket and decided to give it a try.

First impressions - as a make up remover, it does what it says on the tin. I can come out the shower with crazy panda eyes and a couple of swipes of this on a cotton pad and I am make up free (mostly). I have yet to find any make up remover that gets rid of the stubborn bits of mascara that cling to my lashes completely without at least a few attempts, but this comes about as close as any I have tried in the past. Being fragrance free, it's not the most pleasant experience using it, however I would happily forgo sensory enjoyment in order to have a product that does what it's meant to do.

However, where this falls down for me is the packaging. I struggle to get a nice balance when I am trying to deposit some of the liquid onto a cotton pad - I either get a few measly drops, or I squeeze it that little bit too hard and end up drenching the cotton pad. Subsequently, I have gone through this bottle at a much quicker speed than I would have expected due to the unnecessary wastage of the product.

The main issue that I have with this product is the ingredients. I didn't check them before I purchased it however just by chance I happened to glance at them one day and to my surprise, I noticed that the last five ingredients in this are Methylparaben , Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben and Propylparaben. I have recently started to take an interest in organic beauty; it seems to be a natural progression from being cruelty free, and the last thing I want to do is start introducing a new product into my routine that is full of parabens. For more information on parabens and the potential harm they can cause, check out this article.

It looks like for me, the hunt for the perfect make up remover continues - and next time I will definitely be trying something that is natural and organic. If you have any recommendations, please do let me know!

SK:N clinic - laser hair removal

Sunday, April 7, 2013

Having spent the past 15 years being a slave to the razor or enduring the torture of having to leave the hair to grow out for waxing, I have often pondered upon booking myself in for a laser hair removal treatment. I've been regaled with various different tales from friends and acquaintances who have undergone the treatment, with varying degrees of horror. Some find it completely painless, and others whimper at the memory.

I don't consider myself to be particularly brave when it comes to inflicting pain on myself, however having gone through the process of childbirth (without an epidural), I do give myself some credibility when it comes to being able to endure 'uncomfortable' experiences!

SK:N clinics in Glasgow currently have 30% discount on their underarm laser hair removal, and I am extremely tempted to pop along for a consultation.

What do you think, have you ever gone under the laser, and if so would you recommend it?
